Maundy Thursday
Jesus knew that the Father had put him in complete charge of everything, that he came from God and was on his way back to God. So he got up from the supper table, set aside his robe, and put on an apron. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the feet of the disciples, drying them with his apron. When he got to Simon Peter, Peter said, “Master, you wash my feet?” Jesus answered, “You don’t understand now what I’m doing, but it will be clear enough to you later.” Peter persisted, “You’re not going to wash my feet—ever!” Jesus said, “If I don’t wash you, you can’t be part of what I’m doing.” (John 13)
When you read this in context, you realize that Jesus is not referring to a quick dip in a baptismal font as a child or even a full immersion as an adult in a tank or at the sea.
Let’s face it: Jesus wants to wash us clean from EVERY vice that pollutes 'His body - His bride' - ESPECIALLY the hidden ones! i.e. Avarice, sloth, pride, (all) addictions, alcoholism, drugs, greed, gluttony, anger, aggression, arrogance, wrath, lust, envy, despair …
So my friend, let’s sit here awhile, waiting for the Holy Spirit of Jesus to come to us - I’m sure that, like me, you’ll need to prepare your heart for his penetrating gaze.
Look, He’s coming our way, wrapped in a towel…
“Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches. Christ-conquerors are safe from Devil-death.” (Rev 2:11)
