He will swallow up death. (Isa 25:8)
How many broken dreams, how many shattered hopes, how many ‘if only’s’ lay smashed at the foot of the cross?
How many times has our Heavenly Father heard our broken hearts and stepped in and swallowed the death of something that, through its masterful deception, was clinging to us, sucking away our very life and hope away in its noxious deprivation…?
And our Lord doesn’t just fix our mistakes and then step back tut-tutting. As the Good Father Jesus revealed to us, His hands remain outstretched towards us, always available for us to grasp – He will never give up on us. No - never!
His promise to free us if we come to Him breaks out over all the noise and static of our complex and broken lives: “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” (Isa 41:10)
