(John the Baptist) said, “The real action comes next: The star in this drama, to whom I’m a mere stagehand, will change your life. I’m baptizing you here in the river, turning your old life in for a kingdom life. His baptism—a holy baptism by the Holy Spirit—will change you from the inside out.” (Mark 1:7)
I know that I've written about this before, but somebody still needs to hear it... the clearest example that shows the meaning of baptizo is a text from the Greek poet and physician Nicander, who lived about 200 B.C. and it's not a Holy text - but rather a recipe for making pickles!
Nicander says that in order to make a pickle, the vegetable should first be ‘dipped’ (bapto) into boiling water and then ‘baptised’ (baptizo) in the vinegar solution. The first action is temporary. The second (the act of baptising the vegetable) produces a permanent change.
So … as I see it, the average cucumber stays a cucumber until its baptism is complete, that is, until its very fibre is permeated through and through with the pickling solution. Only then does it get to change from a simple cucumber to an awesome gherkin!
What about us? Are we jumping in and out of the baptism our Father GOD has ordained for us whenever it suits us, or are we content to let His love 'infuse' (and truly fix) us?
(Jesus speaking) ‘He that believes and is baptised shall be saved’. Mark 16:16.
“Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches. Christ-conquerors are safe from Devil-death.” (Rev 2:11)
