I went back to reading The Cross and the Switchblade this week and was tremendously impacted. It's the story of how Pentecostal pastor David Wilkerson of Assemblies of God is touched by an article in Life magazine about seven teenage members of a criminal gang back in 1958 who have been convicted of murder and have no hope in the system! (Sounds terribly familiar 65 years later in 2023, doesn't it ...?)
Alone and with little money, David goes to Brooklyn, NY, to search out all the various dangerous street gangs and tell them about Jesus at the risk of his life. There, he met Nicky Cruz, a leader of the most dangerous "Mau Maus" street gang, and when Nicky threatens to kill David by cutting him into a thousand pieces, David responds with, "... and if you do, then each of the thousand pieces will still cry out that Jesus loves you!"
Lord, I too, want to live for you; lead me to those that your heart is breaking over, those that are lost in this lonely, dying world.
