(Luke 22:42) "... not my will, but yours, be done.”
If we genuinely believe that our Lord Jesus knows all our thoughts, hopes and dreams, then surely he already knows that we’re envious of all the ‘things’ that we feel will somehow complete us!
“Oh, if only I had their body”. “Their spouse.” “Their job.” “Their money and house.” “Kids like theirs.” “Their luck…. blah, blah, blah!?”
King Solomon was wealthy and wise beyond anything we can imagine, yet his bottom line was: “Fear God. Do what He tells you. And that’s it." (Ecc 12:14)
NB - He also inserted a caveat that we should sincerely take to heart... "Eventually, God will bring everything that we do out into the open and judge it according to its hidden intent, whether it’s good or evil.”
So, instead of feeding the damaged (fleshy) me, which lusts after all the la la that the ‘oh so clever’ would have me think will complete me, I’m going to pray:
“Holy Father, Jesus tells us that You gave him the power to raise Lazarus from death, decomposition and decay. So You can help me with all that’s happening in my life. I give You now all my dreams and aspirations. I lay down all my plans and schemes at Your feet and surrender myself to You and Your Lordship …. Please fix what I've done wrong with my life and help me turn back to You in ALL things. To trust you in ALL things and not let go. Ever! Amen.
Holy Spirit, please touch the heart of whoever is reading this. Draw them into Your presence and show them that You continue to speak and answer prayers today. Amen.
Heavenly Father, giver of life and health: Comfort and relieve those who are sick amongst us—Alastair, Barbara, Ian, Alex, Alexander, James, Keiron, Jay, Liliana, Maria, Susanna, and those you bring to our minds right now... Please grant your healing power to those who minister to all the sick among us so they may be strengthened in their weakness and have confidence in your loving care. We pray this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
