(Matthew 25:14) “For many are called (invited, summoned), but few are chosen.”
When the spotlight looms around us all, and they’re looking for exciting testimonies, we can all be like the Donkey on Shrek. “Pick Me, Pick Me!”
But what about the more menial tasks the Kingdom constantly needs to do...? Are we as willing to place ourselves on the cleaning rota somewhere (to get to know people [and ourselves better])? Or how about calling on (and showing some love to) the sick? Or visiting those in prison (mental, physical or spiritual)? What about feeding the hungry (not just with food but giving your time to those who need 'life')? Or providing sustenance to the thirsty (before they run off in their need and delve into some dodgy broken cisterns [there are plenty of them around nowadays])? Or not turning away from but actively practising loving hospitality by looking out for the needs of the strangers in your community? (Paraphrased from Mat 25:35).
This isn't about making us feel 'bad' but is about getting us to the point where we sincerely concede that if GOD knows our hearts (and therefore precisely what we need to be 'free of the tyranny of our damaged selves’) then trusting in His Lordship, we should proactively walk along the path He's chosen for us because He doesn't say “Many are called, but few are chosen” for spite but for our benefit because being called is not enough to be a saint!
Being called means responding to that calling (invitation) because positive action is required!
Being chosen means accepting one's calling, being grateful for it, and moving forward in serving GOD and His Son as 'They' dictate—ALL in the Power of His Holy Spirit.
Holy Spirit, please touch the heart of whoever is reading this. Draw them into Your presence and show them that You continue to speak and answer prayers today. Amen.
Heavenly Father, giver of life and health: Comfort and relieve those who are sick amongst us—Alastair, Barbara, Ian, Alex, Alexander, James, Keiron, Jay, Liliana, Maria and Susanna. Please grant your healing power to those who minister to all the sick among us so they may be strengthened in their weakness and have confidence in your loving care. We pray this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
