(Jesus speaking) “In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can’t get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself off from God’s part.” (Mat ‭6:14)

I walked into a meeting at work with an argument going on. As I took my seat, I overheard one guy saying to the other, “Suppose you had £86,400, and I ‘allegedly’ stole £1,000 from you. Would you throw away the other £85,400 on employing solicitors or thugs who would try to get the £1,000 back?! No, you wouldn’t! You’d get over it and be more careful.”

By now, my interest was piqued! Where was this going, I wondered. He continued: “There are only 86,400 seconds in a day, and you’ve already thrown away 1,000 of them being upset at me – let’s not waste anymore!”

At that, he reached across the desk and offered his hand. They shook hands, and forgiveness and acceptance was reached. I mumbled ‘Hallelujah’ and got on preparing for the meeting – amazed.

Lord, help me to know how short my time here really is and help me not to waste it on stupid, toxic, self-appeased and ugly ventures. Amen.
