(Psalm 51:6) “What you’re after is truth from the inside out. Enter me, then; conceive a new, true life."
We met for a coffee with a lovely lady this week, and her story of a broken family really shattered my heart. Unfortunately, it also brought back far too many memories of a damaged relationship my family suffered through my nonfunctioning earthly father.
As I said a while ago, I found it extremely difficult watching the film “I Can Only Imagine,” as it brought about a tsunami of emotions that came from seeing how an aggressive father perpetually abused his wife and young son. The feelings that welled up within me revealed to me that although I thought I’d forgiven my dad—I hadn’t even come close!
Unfortunately, many emotions spill from (or even onto) us, such as bitterness, hatred, etc. These unwarranted feelings don’t just scratch our scars but act like poison ivy, suggesting we still have open, festering wounds.
Please hear my heart. The freeing, healing process can ONLY 'begin' when we take it all to the proper Physician, Jesus, and ask Him to enter and bring light into the darkened recesses we’ve carefully locked and hidden away. Only His Love and ministry can free us from the toxicity of a broken life. NB—once this process begins, we can run back to him whenever we feel tempted to go back into the dark and 'scratch an unwanted itch!'
Holy Spirit, please touch the heart of whoever is reading this. Draw them into Your presence and show them that You continue to speak and answer prayers today. Amen.
Heavenly Father, giver of life and health: Comfort and relieve those who are sick amongst us—Alastair, Barbara, Ian, James, Keiron, Jay, Liliana and Maria. Please grant your healing power to those who minister to all the sick among us so they may be strengthened in their weakness and have confidence in your loving care. We pray this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
