(Psalm 73:26) "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion for ever."
Consequences of a [Supernatural] relationship with the Holy Spirit. (7)
This brings me to a spectacular finale within my own Holy Spirit interventions (to date).
After a year of not listening to me, and only when I had suffered another severe heart failure did the Cardiology department finally give in and reluctantly grant me an angiogram. The following day, the surgeon, accompanied by his gaggle of young staffers, flooded the space around my bed and subsequently informed me that he was 'sorry' but that it appeared that half of my heart had unfortunately died due to a lack of blood able to feed it! “… If only we'd got there sooner!" He concluded over his shoulder as he turned to lead his gaggle towards the next poor unfortunate...!
FYI, a normal heart function will be between 55/70% and anything below that is considered extremely dangerous. My heart ejection fraction was now only functioning at about 25/35%, and that is why I was feeling extraordinarily breathless and poorly!
As you can imagine, once he and his gaggle of staffers had left, I lay stunned in my bed, mulling over the ramifications of what had just been said, but I couldn’t get past my seemingly short future. YES, I was feeling extremely fearful as well as angry at the doctor’s inability to listen to my pleas for over a year and added to that, I was now having to fight the depressive thoughts that accompanied it all; to be honest, my prayers didn't much reach the end of my nose, never mind the throne room of GOD!
Then, while I lay there feeling extremely sorry for myself, the Lord intervened. I felt the Holy Spirit lead me to Psalm 73, verse 26. I opened this on my phone and thought I must have read this Psalm hundreds of times. My wife said later that this was obviously a Rhema Word direct from GOD.
All I knew was that it spoke right to my heart (pun intended), "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." The Lord then told me that I should begin to proclaim the Truth of it over myself!”
Anyway, cardiology subsequently sent me for more checks prior to them fitting me with a pacemaker. During the tests, a technician monitoring the readings casually pointed out to the surgical team monitoring that my heart function had ‘somehow’ risen to 55%! She then looked down at me as I lay on the bed and said, “This is all VERY strange!
A loud sigh came over the external monitor, followed by a disgruntled voice that said, "We're going to need more scans before we can proceed!” Later, and extremely excitedly, the same nurse told me that they’d completed more scans and when those had been checked (and counter-checked), they’d noticed that a vein from the left-hand (healthy) side of my heart had ‘somehow’ moved to the right-hand (now dead) side and seemed to be feeding it!
Months later, I had my first cardiac assessment with two separate medical assessors, and the news was truly amazing. Each of them began by telling me they were initially confused by my readings. In fact, they both thought the records were somehow reversed and couldn’t understand how the heart could have improved so significantly! “Things like this NEVER happen!” they both concluded.
Whatever it was, it allowed me to share my miracle with them, and I know I left them both gob-smacked!
Holy Spirit, please touch the heart of whoever is reading this. Draw them into Your presence and show them that You continue to speak and answer prayers today. Amen.
