I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse; therefore, you shall choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding closely to Him; for He is your life [your good life, your abundant life, your fulfilment] and the length of your days… (Deu 30:19)

It's a difficult message today that hinges on the above Scripture as well as Hebrews 4:7, “Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” So, apologies in advancebut some of us need to hear this and obey.

I’ve learned (the hard way) that choosing life isn’t wishing and hoping as you walk along a particular path or deciding on a system. It isn’t a method or even a religious discipline. It’s certainly not a mantra or something you can make yourself ‘do!’

Like a drowning man grasping at straws, it must be an automatic reaction performed through the abject fear of the distressful alternative (think of a frightened child running back to their parent)!

Many of us cry out for things to go better in our lives, but inside, we don’t want to submit to GOD's terms. Therefore, our Heavenly Father has to constantly remind us not to harden our hearts to His perfect direction (see Heb 3:8 / 3:15 and 4:7)

Once that directive is firmly established, and as the opening Scripture tells us, choosing life is achieved by:

  1. loving the Lord your God
  2. obeying His voice
  3. holding closely to Him; for He is your life [your good life, your abundant life, your fulfilment] and the length of your days…

NB - Every choice we make always begins at the short and narrow door (the one we mostly reject because we have to humble ourselves and crawl through on our knees) and meekly accept that “I cannot see a way through here, Lord GOD. I agree that I do not know the best way, and I really don’t want to be my own god anymore; therefore, I humbly ask you to be my GOD. Please speak to me and show me what to do…

Our Heaven Father reminds me here of the Apostle Peter's words, "Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God [set aside self-righteous pride], so that He may exalt you [to a place of honour in His service] at the appropriate time, casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully]." (1 Peter 5:6)

Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches. Christ-conquerors are safe from Devil-death.” (Rev 2:11) ❤️
