The LORD is near to the heartbroken And He saves those who are crushed in spirit (contrite in heart, truly sorry for their sin). (Psa 34:18)

I recently heard a lady complaining that her best friend never seemed to be with her during her times of trial and pain, but she always seemed to appear later when things were fine again.

It seems I’ve walked this path many times myself over the years, but to be honest, coping with my own pain isn’t HALF as bad as trying to be there for those you love in their pain.

Nothing can ever prepare you for the tsunami of aching tears, rivers of snot, vanloads of tissues and torrents of sharp-edged words that cut, slice and tear at your very soul.

But through the very heart of the storm, GOD moves even closer. 'He is near to the heartbroken and saves those who are crushed in spirit.'

Lord Jesus, help me to love as you do - even when all we seem to be able to do to help is to cry.
