- Pray for Grace to quieten your heart.
- Use this Grace to forgive those who are being used to stand against you just now.
I've mentioned previously that just before we were called to Bible College, the firm I was with for 13 years as Director of Special Projects collapsed. The overall market situation was horrible in the mid-90s for everyone, and I ended up with a ton of debt around my neck just trying to stay afloat. At one point, I had a bank manager whose empathy and compassion were second only to that of a rabid rat!
One day, the Lord woke me up early and told me to stop writing letters to the bank manager and to go see him at his head office. When he finally got around to seeing me, he didn't stand to greet me, look up from his work, or even offer to shake my hand; in fact, his first words to me were, "If you've come here to beg, then don't bother...!"
Yes, I was angry (seething)! Yes, I was bursting to say something horrible in retaliation, but (once again) the still, small voice told me to give him my testimony and explain why I wanted a clean break to go to Bible college!
Long story short, by the time I'd finished telling him, he was smirking, and I could see he was itching to say something horrible, "So if I don't wipe this debt, you're telling me that your GOD will reach down and zap me?"
At this prompt, I told him the truth of GOD's love, and thirty minutes later, left the bank, completely debt-free - his parting words still ringing in my ears, "You'd better not stop praying to your GOD for me...!"
As usual, I asked the Lord what He wanted to say to us, and here's what I believe He said, "Open up your heart to them and pray to bless them, THEN watch what your Heavenly Father does…! The change WILL come – but be aware – it may well come in YOU!
