We all experience times of testing, which is normal for every human being. But God will be faithful to you. He will screen and filter the severity, nature, and timing of every test or trial you face so that you can bear it. And each test is an opportunity to trust him more, for along with every trial God has provided for you a way of escape that will bring you out of it victoriously. (‭‭1 Cor‬ ‭10:13‬)

I remember talking with my friend Les Mitchell about this, and he made a statement to the effect that temptations usually affect the soft underbelly of our ‘addictive personality.’

It would be easy to research the interweb for a comprehensive list, and I bet there are loads of toxic and hurtful things out there, from pornography to the abuse of power - but addictive temptations even come in the form of the masquerades we feel we need to perform around certain groups of people – or maybe the attitudes we assume when we’re driving our cars ...?

I’m sure that none of us enjoys going through all these hoops, but as the Scripture says, ‘each test is an opportunity to trust Him more!’ and it goes on: ‘for along with every trial, God has provided for you a way of escape that will bring you out of it victoriously.’

Holy Spirit, I stand before you weighed down with addictions, like a child laden with balloons ... please give me the Peace to let go of all my addictions and to trust You to set me free.

Amen ...
