(James 4:3) "Where do you think all these appalling wars and quarrels come from? Do you think they just happen? Think again. They come about because you want your own way, and fight for it deep inside yourselves. You lust for what you don’t have and are willing to kill to get it. You want what isn’t yours and will risk violence to get your hands on it. You wouldn’t think of just asking God for it, would you? And why not? Because you know you’d be asking for what you have no right to. You’re spoiled children, each wanting your own way."
Ouch...! And to think that James is writing this to 'us'...!
Today, the Lord got me thinking about selfishness and the confusion that overshadows it, what it means and how to overcome it.
As James points out - the problem is that most of us act like spoilt children (even with GOD). In effect, 'We want what we want when we want it, and how we want it!'
And it's not just about praying for GOD's Wisdom and then asking GOD to bless what 'you' believe is right—it's about (a) trusting in His Wisdom when it manifests itself (b) trusting in His Guidance—even when it seems painful (c) focusing on His love as you walk towards the solution 'He' wants for you.
Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that GOD has His own plans to prosper us, and if it's GOD's plan, then it certainly can't be our plan. As such, you'd better get used to the fact that you're never going to get what you want the way 'you' think it should happen!
OK ... then how do we receive our Father's Blessing?
Psalm 37:4 tells us clearly and simply, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart."

Please pray with me, “Holy Father, I'm sick of doing everything 'my' way and failing miserably! Please forgive my selfish attitude. I want to delight myself in the covenant Your Son died to make for me. I want, above all else, to know You and see Your Kingdom manifest in my life and heart. Please help me.“ Amen
