(Luke 22:42) “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup [of divine wrath] from Me; yet not My will, but [always] Yours be done."
If GOD would have granted anyone's wish, it would indeed have been Jesus's. But GOD couldn't grant this wish because this was the very reason Jesus came - to sacrifice himself for 'our' sins, and to do so would have condemned all of us to an eternity in hell!
Proverbs 4:23 tells us: "Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life." Fundamentally, we are taught that the 'heart' is the soul's command centre: the mind, will, and affections. This is why it's constantly being attacked from all sides, and because of sin (deviation from GOD's perfect will for 'our' benefit), it is a high-risk, vulnerable place!
We have an expression in this world attributed to Aesop (the ancient Greek storyteller who wrote Aesop's Fables c260BC): "Be careful what you wish for; you just might get it."
Consequently, this warning has been doing the rounds for thousands of years! Think about it: Why do so many lottery winners, pop stars, A-listers, etc., end up as cautionary tales—depressed, broke, or worse...?
So, what's the antidote to misguided wishes that can draw us into perdition? (Proverbs 3:5/6) "Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, and He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].
Holy Spirit, please touch the heart of whoever is reading this. Draw them into Your presence and show them that You continue to speak and answer prayers today. Amen.
Heavenly Father, giver of life and health: Comfort and relieve those who are sick amongst us—such as Barbara and Ian fighting cancer. We also pray for a quick and complete healing for James, Keiron, Jay and Liliana. Please grant your healing power to those who minister to all the sick among us so they may be strengthened in their weakness and have confidence in your loving care. We pray this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
