Bless and affectionately praise the Lord, O my soul, and all that is [deep] within me, bless His holy name. (Psa 103:1)
As I walked up to my office to seek the Lord and prepare for tomorrow's word of encouragement, my wife turned to me and said, “Bless the Lord, O my soul …”
That got me thinking, ‘What does it look like to ‘Bless the Lord with all that is within you?’ To me - after all that GOD has done in my life, He alone is worthy of such praise.
I also know that this beautiful Psalm inspired the song ‘10,000 Reasons’ by Matt Redman. The point behind the song, as he puts it, is this; ‘If you wake up one morning and you cannot think of a reason to bring GOD some offering of thanks or praise, then you can be sure there’s something wrong at your end of the pipeline, and not his. We live beneath an unceasing flow of goodness, kindness, greatness, and holiness, and every day, we’re given reason after reason why Jesus is so completely and utterly worthy of our highest and best devotion.’
What a very honest and trustworthy reminder of where to set our thoughts and hopes. We are to set them on WHO GOD IS and what He has done for us. But more than that, those reasons to praise Him are the reasons why we have hope! Read some of the Psalm again …
He forgives your sins—every one.
He heals your diseases—every one.
He redeems you from hell—saves your life!
He crowns you with love and mercy—a paradise crown.
He wraps you in goodness—beauty eternal…
God makes everything come out right … (Psa 103)
As usual, I asked the Lord what He wanted to say, and He led me to this Scripture: "Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread… for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” (Deu 31:6)
“Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches. Christ-conquerors are safe from Devil-death.” (Rev 2:11)
