“I, only I, am He who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, And I will not remember your sins. (Isa 43:25)
I've been reading a fabulous book recently by Sharon Garlough Brown called Sensible Shoes, which tells the moving story of four strangers as they embark together on a journey of spiritual formation:
Hannah is a burnt-out pastor who ministers 24/7 to others but doesn't allow herself time to be ministered to.
Meg is a widow and recent empty-nester who is haunted by her past to the point where fear is her constant companion.
Mara is a woman who has experienced a lifetime of rejection and is now trying to navigate a difficult marriage with two unruly children.
Charissa is a hard-working perfectionist whose sole purpose is to get everything right, which means trying her best not to displease God.
The book follows these four women as they reluctantly arrive at a retreat centre and find themselves drawn from their separate stories of isolation and struggle into a collective journey of spiritual practice, mutual support, and personal revelation.
I'm writing to you about this because as I read through each character's story, I see so much of myself in each of them, and I find my hope arising because even within the total despair of their lives, I see the way GOD works to set them all free. If you can relate to this in any way, then I can honestly recommend the book.
As usual, I've asked the Lord what He wants to say to you, and I believe He spoke this,
"I love my children and will never leave them to their own ends, as I told you before, death will never be your saviour, only I will be your Saviour."
“Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches. Christ-conquerors are safe from Devil-death.” (Rev 2:11)
