Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it?
For instance, you come upon an old friend dressed in rags and half-starved and say, “Good morning, friend! Be clothed in Christ! Be filled with the Holy Spirit!” and walk off without providing so much as a coat or a cup of soup—where does that get you? Isn’t it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense? (James 2:14)
We all want to remember the Assurance that Mercy triumphs over Judgement, but surely we can only claim this promise when we keep in mind Jesus’s words: “Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment.” (Luke 6:37)
How (horribly) easy is it to harden our hearts and reverse GOD’s Promise and let judgement triumph over mercy and say, “Well, it’s their own stupid fault! They’ve only got themselves to blame!”
Jesus goes on to say: “Don’t condemn those who are down; that hardness can boomerang. Be easy on people; you’ll find life a lot easier. “Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus and blessing.”
“Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity.”
