God did it for us… He got us out of the mess we were in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ. (‭‭Rom‬ ‭3:24)

When I first accepted this truth – that God had provided Jesus as my Saviour and he came to 'live' in me, I honestly was the happiest guy on Earth! It was as if I’d just walked into Eden and left all my sinful tendencies back outside.

I never quite realised the importance of the second part of the Scripture: “And he did it by means of Jesus Christ.” I knew that I’d been ‘filled‘ with His Holy Spirit, but my heart, mind and life weren’t regenerated, and like water leaking through a sieve, I couldn’t contain him, just as it states in John 15:6 (Jesus speaking), "... Anyone who separates from me is deadwood, gathered up and thrown on the bonfire."

Even then, instead of actually understanding that I needed him ‘daily‘, I just redoubled my 'religious' efforts - as you can imagine, I crashed and burned spectacularly!

Now, the only effort I put in is to stay close to him. Keep alert to his leading. Listen to what he says and respond accordingly with an open heart.

Father, thank you for Jesus …
