The fourth commandment is quite different to all the rest as it's the only one with a promise attached, i.e. if we 'do that', then we can 'have this.'

A good definition of Parenting would be "the process of raising children and providing them with protection and care in order to ensure their healthy development into adulthood."

Sounds easy when you set it down like this, but to the majority of us actually doing it, it feels more like 'kids bringing up kids!'

Everything we learn of any value is either bought through pitiable scar-forming pain or hair-tearing demented regret ... and that's before we add the complexities of trying to parent around toxic situations, i.e. wars, famines, disasters, etc., and all the repercussive complexities that lot brings into any equation.

For example, my father was caught up in WW2 when he was just 13. His oldest brother was shot in front of him as a lesson to the rest of the town, and it wouldn't take the genius of Sherlock Holmes to see how it messed up his whole persona to the extent that everything other than physical procreation was a nightmare for him. Frustration in him would quickly turn to anger, and anger would push him to lash out abusively - verbally and physically...!

What saved our family from this cancer? JESUS!!!!

My honoured mother recognised our predicament and, realising her need for Divine assistance prayed ... simple as that!

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. (Psalm 23)
