(Jesus speaking) “For your heart will always pursue what you value as your treasure.” (Mat 6:21)

As I read this my mind recalled a film I saw of a lonely old man sitting on his own in a locked vault staring at his old art treasures. The scene left me feeling quite sad.

Then I remembered visiting my mother just before she passed on. With feeble hands, she started rummaging through a drawer close to her bed and pulled out a piece of material on which I had scrawled “I love you, my Mamma” when I was about six years old. She held this to her heart and, with tears in her eyes, told me how much this treasure meant to her.

Lord Jesus, open the drawers of my heart today and show me what I’m valuing as ‘my treasure.’
