A sister asked me recently, “So, what are some things you’ve learned from your past mistakes…?” Open heart time (again). OK, here are just a few …
A). I’m still learning not to pre-empt the Holy Spirit. For example, one of my greatest faults is to try and take over, “Don’t worry GOD, I can see where you're going with this; it's OK, Holy Spirit, I can handle it from here …!”
B) I’m still learning not to judge. For example, years ago, I stayed in the home of a truly horrible man that went out of his way to let it be known how much he hated Christians. Later, when GOD set him free (BIG MIRACLE), we found out that his attitude towards us was predominantly due to the fact that he’d been deeply hurt by another Christian's horrid words and treatment!
C) I’m still learning to accept GOD’s responses, particularly YES, NO, and (the hardest one) NOT NOW. I want everything NOW and can even use the Bible to justify much of what I’m after! Unfortunately, trying to manipulate GOD (or His people, for that matter) through emotions etc., is exactly what it is – witchcraft …!
D) I’m still learning the meaning of Faith. It’s easy to believe when everything you ask for just happens. But there have been times for me when life is like the encouragement - FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND … Times when I feel like I’m going through the valley of the shadow of death - and no matter how many toys I throw out of the pram - I feel very much alone. Sometimes I don’t feel like I’m hanging on to Jesus, much more like my coat button’s got caught in his robe somehow, and I’m being dragged along behind him, my head banging on all the cobbles!
All in all, I need to bow the knee to Your ways, Lord and discover for myself that You're gentle, humble, and easy to please.
