In my youth, I loved the racquet game Squash and played it a lot! I loved the physical and mental challenge it presented; extreme aerobic and anaerobic exercise. It also demanded many exacting skills: you must be fit and healthy, possess great hand-eye coordination, and be agile, mentally tough and explosive.
One year our club champion was selected to play in the overall UK championships, and we all went along to support him.
The match started well, with almost all the points going to our guy, but then as the other guy started losing, he changed his style and began playing a really dirty game.
Although the crowd were all jeering and booing, it didn’t seem to faze the referee, and finally, the bad guy wore our good guy down through his underhanded tactics - and won!
As he exited the glass-backed court, he turned to the crowd and, smirking and with a voice dripping with sarcastic contempt, said: “I don’t care what you all think; I play to win – and by any means I can!”
It was a hard lesson, but I soon learned for myself that god guys didn't always win and that the 'dark game' wasn't just played on the squash court, but it actually played out and thrived everywhere - and in all walks of life!
It actually impacted me greater than I ever realised and became one of the things GOD had to really stamp out of me! I had to ‘unlearn’ all the sneaky and dirty tricks I’d gathered in my stupidly accumulated arsenal of weapons and ‘learn’ instead to trust GOD.
Did I always win from then on...? No. So what was the point?
The point was that the state of my ‘Soul’ (my standing before GOD) is far more important than anything I can ever do down here, and I won't be judged on my winning - but on 'how' I played!
Ask Him to help you trust Him. He loves you - and will empower you.
