“Father ... please, not what I want. What do you want?” (Luke 22:43)
It’s easy to smile at the undisciplined child having a prideful tantrum at the supermarket (unless the child happens to be yours)!
In fact, it's only as children get older that they begin to realise that we're setting them boundaries for their good and that these boundaries are there in order to try to train them to make their own decisions - and not just any decisions, but ones based on love, respect and common-unity. i.e. you don't like it when someone steals your things, so don't steal from others. You're not happy when someone makes fun of you, so don't bully others, etc.
So, are we any different when it comes to GOD - do we prefer self-will to GOD’s will?
The thing is, we 'show' our love to our Heavenly Father when we can say with Jesus, “Not what I want, what do You want?”
NB - I’m assured that this is arguably the most important message of the Bible - unfortunately, it cannot just be spoken - it must come from the heart.
