… O Lord, I am oppressed, take my side and be my security. (Isa 38:14)
For a great number of people, the absence of hope in their lives is a very real and horrible state of affairs.
Six months ago, I'd just had another heart attack, and after a particularly difficult angiogram, was told that the muscles on the right-hand side of my heart were, for all intents and purposes - dead...!
The next morning, the doctor came to see me, followed by his gaggle of smaller doctors and nurses. Not taking his eyes off his chart, I heard him say, "we'll be sending you home later today as there's nothing more that can be done for you ..." Then, looking down at me, he concluded, "Have you anything else you want from us?"
I was shocked by his seeming indifference and heard myself say, "Hope...! Shouldn't you at least be offering me some hope?"
"Hope ..." He said derisively, "we don't offer hope here!"
"Then what are all the hundreds of patients here believing for?" I asked...! "Why else do you think they've come here, if not because they 'hope' that you doctors and nurses can help to fix them?"
So, it seems that other than our Marketing institutions (who need us to believe and hope in their products,)… none of our other great institutions – Governmental, Financial, Medical, Industrial, etc., will offer it, and so a vast number of humanity end up with nothing more than the impossible odds of the lottery!
But our Loving GOD stretches forth His Mighty Hand today and tells us in His Word that He is willing and able to:
… fill you to overflowing with uncontainable joy and perfect peace as you trust in him. And may the power of the Holy Spirit continually surround your life with his super-abundance until you radiate with HOPE! (Rom 15:13)
